FAQs
What kinds of engagement activities can you help with?
Start up programs: I’ve launched affinity groups, travel programs, career networking platforms and events, admissions interviewing programs, enewsletters, awards and awards shows, first generation and legacy events, giving days, and engagement metrics processes.
Volunteer support: I’ve evolved two alumni associations, developed smooth nominations and elections processes for several nonprofits, run board meetings and retreats, written board reports and presentations, and prepped one-off volunteers as event speakers or hosts.
Event planning: I’ve planned hundreds of events and overseen thousands! I can develop event strategies, develop and execute production plans, create and administer post-event surveys, follow up with attendees, prep speakers, and of course be onsite to manage the gathering.
Program maintenance: I’ve run or overseen just about every program in the engagement space! So if what you need is just someone to fill in while a staff member is out or you’re awaiting HR, just let me know what you need done!
Surveys: I’ve designed and analyzed hundreds of surveys to collect both transactional and attitudinal feedback.
What is your title?
You can call me a fractional or interim engagement professional.
As an interim, I dip in to cover for someone who is out of the office, or while the position is in the HR queue. As a fractional, I’m doing work like developing new programs, reviewing strategic plans and operating guidelines, advising new leaders in their first few months, or setting up processes and systems.
Do you work on site?
I can! But I prefer to work from my home office most of the time.
What kinds of fundraising activities can you help with?
Back-office fundraising tasks: I’ve prepared meeting briefs; researched donors; edited proposals; and identified engaged alumni, parents, and friends with capacity and interest for fundraising portfolios.
Giving days: I was on the teams that launched Cornell’s and Lehigh’s days of giving. I can guide you to build the right team, find match donors, craft challenges, develop a communications plan, recruit volunteer fundraisers, and create stewardship plans.
What kinds of communications can you help with?
Writing: I was a professional copywriter and resume writer for 10 years, and in my last two positions wrote extensively for internal and external audiences. I’ve written and edited speeches, bios, op-eds, articles for industry and mainstream publications, websites, social posts, book chapters - I even wrote profiles for a major dating site at one point!
Note: there are many very qualified solicitation and grant writers - I’m not one of them! But I can recommend people in my network to help you with this.
How long will you work with us?
As long as your team needs extra hands or advising! One thing I know about most organizations: it’s rare to be fully-staffed with everyone situated in exactly the right positions. So if we’re a great fit, perhaps we could work together for years as I plug into different roles and advise on different approaches. Otherwise, I work to smooth the transition for the full time person and then peace out!
Would you consider a full-time position?
Nope! The temporary nature of fractional and interim work is the appeal…I love working alongside permanent staff with their best interests at heart and enjoy working with many teams and organizations.
